The first step is to completely disassemble the model. All parts that are to be painted and first stripped with paint stripped then washed with warm water and a tooth brush to remove varnish goop. The result of this is a smooth brass as seen in the shell above. All parts are then blasted with a fine grit at 100psi in a blasting box. This slightly etches the brass giving it a dull finish as seen in the walkway section above and makes it ready to hold the paint.
