CP Tulp

Overall Ratings

Train Density - 3

Accessibility - 3

Photo Opportunities - 3

CP Tulp is approx. 3 miles west of CP Belt and is where the double track once again returns to single track as the NS main crosses Tulpehocken creek and heads up the connecting track to CP Wyomissing Jct or heads south through CP Valley Jct.  CP Tulp offers good photo opportunities in the pm from the west side (shown above) for both east and west bounds and from the north side from mid day on.

On any given day you would expect to see approx. 40 trains past CP Tulp. CP Tulp offers great photo opportunities in both directions due to the sun favoring both east and west bounds. In addition, many trains are held at CP Tulp to allow eastbound trains to pass over the single track thus allowing for unique photo opportunities.

Location 1 (the east end of CP Tulp) is accessible by exiting route 12 at the route 183 exit then proceeding south on route 183 over railroad bridge. Make immediate right at Blair Ave. (Chinese restaurant) then go approx. 3 blocks to tank farm and make right on Carbon Street (where westbound trains often sit) or at Clarion Street (right at CP Tulp).

Location 2 (the west end of CP Tulp) is right off of route 422 at the Wyomissing Blvd exit. Access is only by climbing hill at underpass.

Location 3 is accessed by taking the Wyomissing Blvd exit from 422 east then making right on Douglas Street. Make the next left at Fourth Street then right at Windsor Street. The spot is at the edge of the empty lot on left.

See map for directions.
